[Example of Play] The Construction Site

Willem makes his way down to the construction site. Walking slowly, one hand in pant pocket holding his notebook, his other swaying back and forth holding his pen. He stops once the construction zone is within vision, and takes a moment to see the biggest picture.

Spoiler:

The construction site has several large earth movers and a dump truck. Some earth work has been done and there is still an old foundation setting off to one side of the site.

The site itself is ringed by older homes that are well into a state of disrepair, bars cover their windows and doors.

Looking at the ground around the equipment parked on bare earth it becomes apparent to you that the equipment hasn't moved in days. Recent rains in the last week have smoothed out the dirt and there are no tracks in it from the equipment moving. There is also a small travel trailer parked in the back corner of the lot, likely a mobile office for the construction company. The door to the trailer seems to be sitting slightly ajar.

You'd judge only a few days of work have been done, despite the amount of time the project should have been underway.

After Jotting these few notes down. I tuck away my notebook and begin walking towards the trailer. Listening intently for sounds of anyone being present, Dakota Walker carried out 3 launched of one d10 :

With your preternatural sense of hearing you know the surrounding houses are occupied. One man snores at a near inhuman level. Someone is watching a latino television channel much louder than necessary. A woman hums to herself while washing dishes in her kitchen sink.

You hear no evidence of people in the construction site itself.

Approaching with an air of confidence, I make my way to the trailer. Keeping auspex hearing up, ready to react to a drastic shift inot sound.

Spoiler:

The door to the trailer is closed to but not latched shut. A piece of wire holds the door closed. The area around the latch and handle seems damaged in some way preventing the door from closing securely.

You are confidant that the door was damaged by being pried open with something. What was used to pry it open you're not sure but that was the cause of the damage to the door.

Inside, the trailer has obviously been rummaged through. Having no frame of reference to it you have no idea what may have been taken. There is no overt damage done to the interior of the trailer but it has obviously been gone through by someone in the last few days.

Chuckling under my breath, I whisper
"Brutes, always making such a mess."
I look at the desk and containers that have been rummaged through to see if they were locked before being rummaged through. And if they were, was it by sheer force they were broken open or by something finer. (Just looking for breaks in the handles or locks, don't have skill with lock picks or anything.)
Should I roll?

There are two file cabinets behind a metal desk. All three have been rummaged through. The left lower drawer on the desk has been pried open much like the door to the trailer. Inside the drawer is a small black case marked Smith & Wesson on the outside. It's open and empty. There are plans for the construction and various collections of paperwork in the desk and file cabinets.

A gun has been taken from the desk obviously but, not being a crime scene investigator, you're not sure what other conclusions to draw from what you are seeing in the trailer.

I jot down the name on the boc, Smith and Wesson.
I stand and look around the trailer.
"All this to stop the construction of a YMCA. Brutes."
Making my way to the door after putting away my notebook I pause before leaving and listen to make sure no one is approsching,

You do not hear anything suspicious outside the trailer.

I walk out of the trailer.
I begin to walk around the construction site. Looking at the heavy equipment to see the state they are in.

All the equipment seems in good repair. You come to the same conclusion as earlier, the equipment hasn't seen use in a least a few days, probably a week or more. The old foundation from the presumed house that stood on this lot sits ready to be demolished, something that should have happened very early in the construction. In fact, you realize, there is no evidence that this is even a construction site, more it resembles a simple demolition project.

I return to the trailer, looking for business cards or a memo that has the contact information of someone who could have been the overseer/manager on the site.

There is a set of blueprints on the wall, stamped with the design firms logo and information, beneith it is a set of permits for the construction site made out to Litzenburger Construction with the company's details also.

I record in my notebook the name of the company and the contact information for them. After this point I leave the construction site. I take a second to survey the houses around the construction site, and I stop to listen and see if I can discern which one had the woman humming while she did dishes,

The house on the street to the left side of the construction site, you hear a female speaking in heavily accented English.

"No, Pablo, Papa has to work late again, baby. He can not tuck you in."

I walk towards that house, continuing to listen, waiting to hear the conversation between the woman and the child is over. (Using Auspex)

The child makes a few protests to the mother about daddy never coming home. The woman admonishes the child and leaves him to sleep. Clear from the child's bedroom the woman breaks into tears and quietly sobs to herself.

I approach the door and knock.
